An installation by another contractor over December 2012 and January 2013 had failed.

Two months later the decision was made to remove the floor which was not fit for purpose.

Unfortunately the removal of the failed floor meant that some of the underlying screed and timber joists were damaged.

The weakened layer had to be lifted with care and reinstated. This increased the design thickness from 50mm to closer to 90mm.

Elgood Flooring were consulted by Elstree Film Studios Project team.

Following the success of our Universal Television Studio Floor which we installed for Pinewood Television in TV2 in June 2009 and to ensure that they have the best facilities to offer their clients, Pinewood chose Elgood Flooring to replace the floor in TV1.

Finishing on time first time and to multi camera standard was critical with a new production due in the week after completion.

We were pleased to continue our association with Pinewood.

Our old Universal Television Studio Floor System was due a refurbishment after 22 years of constant use.

Following recommendations from their independent fit out consultant, MTV chose to remove the studio floor from the Design and Build package in order to retain control of the choice of studio floor.

After consultation and the quotation stage which took into consideration long term value, performance, track record and not price only, MTV selected our Universal Television Studio Floor.

QVC inherited floors laid by Elgood Flooring over twenty years ago when they moved into the BSB building Marco Polo House in London. The floors have performed successfully and have required nil maintenance. The floors will continue to be used until the switchover to the new complex is complete in June 2012.

This outstanding track record and Elgood Flooring’s extensive experience recommended Elgood flooring to QVC and enabled us to win the contract for QVC’s Chiswick Park Complex.

Elgood Flooring liaised with QVC for over a year prior to the installation of the floor. QVC removed the Studio Flooring from the Main Contractor’s Package of Works to retain control of the choice of flooring.

Television Studio Flooring is an integral part of the final technical fit out and should not be undertaken as part of the general Design and Build.

This approach has been adopted by others including Sky.

Essex University novated Elgood to carry out the installation of our Television Studio Floor in order to guarantee that they received exactly the specification that they required to train students for camera use in television broadcasting.

BSKYB called upon Elgood Flooring’s extensive experience for their new Harlequin 1 groundbreaking Headquarters.

We acted as an independent consultant and surveyed the sub floor for suitability. We were also asked to advise on installation and programme.

To retain control of the choice of flooring and to ensure that the studio floor met BSKYB rigorous high standard the Studio Flooring element was excluded from the Design and Build Package.

The Studio Flooring was and should be seen as an integral part of the final technical fit out. This approach is now being adopted as standard.

The floor provides optimum camera pedestal performance.

The floor is free of undulations, inclines and surface irregularities. These details are of no consequence on most floors, but totally unacceptable in a modern HD television studio.
